[These lines follow a letter to The Monitor concerning
encounters with a Tale-Bearer]
A charm to ward against that dangerous creature, the Tale-
Bearer.
Would you lead a peaceable, undisturb'd life,
First carefully shun each appearance of strife:
Banish envy, the bane of all joy, from your mind,
'Tis the worst of all plagues which infest human kind.
  . . . [3 verses]
'Bove all, shun that man as the blackest of friends'
Who delights in betraying the secrets of friends.
